Social Smile

Colton will be 6 weeks old tomorrow - wow! It's amazing how fast these 6 weeks have gone by, considering how long the 6 weeks took prior to his arrival :-) According to "experts" the 6 week milestone is a baby's "recognition smile". At week 6, about half of all babies can recognize their parents and are usually so excited and happy that they greet Mommy and Daddy with a big grin. In fact, the smile is termed a "social smile" and it's one of the first signs that a baby is developing an ability to socialize.

Even though we have been struggling through the colic phase, Colton is a very happy baby! He has been smiling at different times throughout the past 6 weeks, whether it's when he passes gas or poops or when his belly is full, he smiles at so many things. He has definitely reached this "social smile" milestone and has the sweetest grin when he hears my voice. Knowing that someone is so happy to see me or hear my voice is such a wonderful feeling. It warms my heart and it's honestly one of the most emotionally gratifying moments I have ever experienced. I mean, how long is Mommy going to be #1? Not long enough, so I'm enjoying that #1 spot for as long as it lasts.

Forklift Operator I don't know if there's anything more awesome than watching my child experience things that I got to experience in my childhood. For those of you who know my family and my background, you know that I was raised in the mountains of Western North Carolina (and when I mean in the mountains - I mean literally, IN the mountains)! We lived on a dirt road near my Grandparents and my Uncle Pat and Aunt Teri. The Best Is Yet To Come

Matt & I  - Little Rock, Arkansas Texas Road Trip 2008 5 years ago (this month), I went on my first road trip with Matt. Matt's Mom was moving to Texas and I decided to ride along with Matt as he pulled a trailer from Indiana (he stopped in Tennessee to pick me up) to Texas. I have heard that it's a long trip but we were so busy getting know each other that the time flew by. I have to say that being stuck in a vehicle with somebody for that long is a good way to figure out if you like them or not. :-) Lucky for us, it was just the first of MANY road trips to come. 4 years ago (next month), I moved to Indiana to be with Matt. It was one of the hardest decisions I've ever made, but it was definitely the right one! Moving to Indiana helped me grow in so many ways. Brining

I could say I have never heard of the word "brining" before, but that wouldn't be 100% accurate. I think I've "heard" the word but I haven't ever paid attention to what it was...until now! I got a few chicken breasts at the grocery store the other day and I was looking for new ways to bake them. I always bake them because it's supposed to be "healthier" (even though I usually have a bowl of ice cream for dessert)!
