Sooo Busy

I have had a couple of friends post comments lately on the subject of “being busy”. It caught my attention. I hear it all the time – heck, I think I even say it without thinking sometimes. It’s almost a knee jerk reaction for people. We ask “How are you?”. The answer, “Good, just sooo busy”. Have you ever used “I’m sooo busy” as an excuse to avoid a friend or family member? If we’re being honest with ourselves, we could all probably answer yes to this at least once in our lives. It’s sad. Maybe you were you actually busy? That’s possible – we really are busy on some days! Not every day. The term “I’m sooo busy” got me thinking about relationships. I think with relationships there are code words we use with each other instead of just being direct, because we don’t want to hurt the person’s feelings. In today’s crazy social media world, there are so many ways to communicate with a person that the whole “I’m sooo busy” seems like a flimsy excuse to use when you don’t want to spend t

Living in the Moment

Because Matt goes to work, most days, before Colton and I are "up" and he gets home just before C goes to bed - it makes for some long weeks. I'm beyond thankful that he has a job so that he can provide for us - so please don't take this as complaining. It's just a fact - the weeks are long, and I miss him. I feel like we only get an hour here and maybe a few minutes there during the week to chat about anything and everything and that anything and everything usually revolves around our little copper top! :-) I love weekends. I love that we all 3 get to be together. Even if we are just cleaning/ mowing/ hauling trash/etc...! There's just something about having "my family" together that makes my heart happy! Colton is happier when Daddy's around and, not going to lie, Mommy is too. The weekends are our catch up days. I catch up on laundry (that seems to appear out of nowhere most days) and cleaning and Matt works through his "honey-do list

This week, 6 years ago, Matt and I were on our road-trip to Texas. Matt had agreed to pull a trailer and help his Mom move and I was asked to ride shotgun. I remember almost everything about that trip. I remember the sound of that diesel truck, the George Strait CD we wore out, learning just how awesome Gary Allen really is, seeing the Arkadelphia water tower and thinking "Arkadelphia is really a place", driving down a long dirt road in the middle of nowhere looking for something to eat and finding the best BBQ I've ever had at some road-side joint in Arkansas. I remember our conversations, the way he looked at me, I remember the excitement of not knowing where we were going to stop or where we were going to stay - and not caring! I remember playing darts in this little hole in the wall place that we had, pretty much to ourselves because it was like 9pm on a Wednesday night. I remember Nashville and how much fun we had - just the two of us. We laughed, and talked and st

Wednesday is just another Monday

So wait, was today Wednesday or Monday? I really couldn't tell by the events happening around here today! Colton has learned how to turn the nozzle on the end of the hose to "on" and he thinks it's hilarious to spray himself, the grass and everything else. I actually don't mind him playing with it because it keeps him busy and he isn't hurting anything. Well, he wasn't hurting anything until he turned it on full blast right at my eyes and caused a busted blood vessel in my right eye (I'm guessing - that diagnosis has not been confirmed by a medical professional). I guess it's well deserved since I was spraying him on Monday and caused him to run face first into the fence in the yard. Colton 1. Mommy 1. We have concrete cinder blocks stacked up for a fire pit in the backyard. I really want them under ground because they will look better and I won't worry about Colton (or anybody) falling into them. I have had this horrible fear that Colton is

Monday

Today! What a day. Colton was up and at it early. In a great mood, just in a great mood way too early for my liking. You would think that I would stop loving sleep since I know I can't really have it anymore, but no, I still love it - and miss it! Matt and I have this old Zenith TV. It's a huge box/tube TV that I'm pretty sure my parents bought back in 1995/1996. One of these days we will get one that we can actually read the words on the screen but we finally hooked it up in our bedroom and it's a lifesaver. After Colton wakes up (and I get his chocolate milk) we lay down (I lay with my eyes closed hoping that he will go back to sleep, and he sits) in bed and watch Chuggington or Ella the Elephant (totally depends on what time he wakes up)! So sad that I know what time it is based on what TV show is on in the morning. But hey, it's the only time the kid sits still for 30 minutes to an hour so I take it - gladly! We have a fence in our yard and Colton likes to r
