How to Catch a Wild Pig

Do you know how to catch wild pigs? By finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come eat the free corn. When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the spot where they are used to coming. When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn again. So, you put up another side of the fence. They get used to that and start to eat again. You continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate on the last side. The pigs, who are used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to eat. You slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd. Suddenly, the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around inside the fence, but they are caught. Soon, they go back to eating the free corn. They are so used to it that they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for themselves, so they accept their captivity.

This is what is happening in America. The government keeps pushing us towards socialism. They keep spreading out "free corn" in the form of programs such as supplemental income, tax credit for unearned income, tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments not to plant crops (CRP), welfare, medicine, drugs. We continually lose our freedoms just a little at a time. They have built the fence - all they have to do is close the gate.

(above is a condensed excerpt from "To Catch a Wild Pig - A Parable About Society That Offers Valuable Lessons for Leaders")

As Americans, we (as a whole) have traded our freedom for convenience. We use smart phones that (we allow to) track our every move. We buy products from companies that can have it to our doorstep within the hour because we don't have time to go to the local store down the street. We have our food delivered so we don't have to make the effort to get dressed and leave the house. We depend on social media apps to run our businesses, our relationships and, ultimately, our lives. We have sold out to the ideas that bigger is better, faster is better, convenience trumps supporting local. We are busy, we are distracted, we have lost focused. We have been caught off-guard and we've become un-educated, numb, isolated and confused. So what are we going to do?

I'm a believer in Jesus Christ and that true freedom can only be found in Him. We are sinful, and the only way to be forgiven (and free) is to understand that He died for our sins and to accept Him as our Lord and Savior. I'm also a patriot and believe that God has blessed America and given us our freedoms and liberties because we were founded on HIM. We are one Nation under God. America is beautiful and her people are strong, but we are wounded. If the season of COVID-19 does anything, I pray that it causes Americans to wake up. Really wake up. Look around. Ask hard questions. Realize that asking those questions might cause us to have to make some (hard) changes. Pray to God for wisdom and guidance and then follow through with obedience.
